Stone laid for new block at K.R. Hospital


Siddaiah, Secretary, Department of Medical Education, laid the foundation stone for the new block to house the section on treating the mentally ill at the K.R. Hospital here yesterday. The new building is being constructed on the vacant space behind the Eye Department's structure. The new facility for mentally ill out-patients is being created at a cost of Rs. 46.25 lakh under grants received from the Centre, the official disclosed to media.

The funds granted two years ago was being utilised now, he explained. Works on first stage of the project will cover two general wards and two special wards. The Public Works Department has been directed to complete the project within nine months," he said.

Speaking later at the Pathology Department, he said that one-and-half-years ago, K.R. Hospital was granted autonomy. Subsequently, many recruitments have taken place including those of professors and junior doctors, he added. Due to some technical problems, salaries had not been disbursed to the newly recruited staff, he disclosed. However, the problem would be resolved within 15 days, he added.

The official also disclosed that he would visit the Hospital again within 15 days and discuss the problems relating to doctors, treatment of patients, supply of medicines and others for 3 days and make efforts to resolve the problems.
