High-tech paediatric ICU for Cheluvamba hospital soon
With the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) picking up fast, the State Government is learnt to be funding crores of rupees for schemes covering children.
Preparations are said to be underway to establish a hi-tech 20-bed Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Cheluvambha Hospital here. In that context Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) Dean and Director Dr. Geetha K. Avadhani and Cheluvamba Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. B. Kri-shnamurthy had reportedly submitted a proposal to NRHM Director S. Selvakumar.
Pregnant women from the neighbouring Kodagu, Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar districts too visit Cheluvamba Hospital for deliveries. Realising the necessity, Selvakumar is learnt to have agreed to provide funds for establishing Paediatric ICU. On his recent visit to the city, Selvakumar was said to have inspected Cheluvamba Hospital and had discussions with Dr. Geetha Avadhani and Dr. Krishnamurthy. He was learnt to have okayed a funding of Rs. 1 crore for establishing Paediatric ICU with incubators, infusion pumps, ventilators and other auxiliary equipments.
Right now a small ICU has been operational for children at the hospital but only with a bare minimum infrastructure, it is learnt.
