AIDS Awareness Train Arrives in City

The Red Ribbon Express, which is touring the country to create awareness against HIV/AIDS, arrived in the city today. The seven-bogey train which includes an exhibition about HIV/AIDS awareness was inaugurated by the CM's Parliamentary Secretary S.A. Ramdas at the city railway station. MLAs Tanveer Sait, H.S. Shankaralinge Gowda, MLC Siddaraju, KHB Chairman G.T.Devegowda, ZP President Latha Siddashetty and offcials were present. The exhibition is jointly organised by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Health and Family Welfare Department under the aegis of National AIDS Organisation, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, State AIDS Prevention Society and UNICEF.

The exhibition is open for public from 9 am to 7 pm from today till July 29. In Bogey numbers 1,2 and 3, exhibition of books on HIV/AIDS is arranged. Bogey No.4 consists of an auditorium for counselling about HIV/AIDS where 60 people can be accommodated. Bogey No.5 consists of five units for personal counselling and medical services. Of these four are reserved for personal counselling whereas the other two are being used for conducting various tests including Sexully Transmitted Infections (STI). Bogey No.6 houses a cultural troupe. Arrangements are made to accommodate 50 artistes. In Bogey No.7, Office and Dining Hall are located. The train will be in the city for three days. There are two Red Ribbon buses also which carry cultural troupes to rural areas and various parts of city who stage street plays on AIDS awareness. In Mysore city, the cultural troupe members started their compaign at 10 am at Railway Station. They also perform at Halladakeri-12.30 pm, Gandhi Sqaure at 3.30 pm. Tomorrow they perform at 10.30 am near Olympia Talkies, Bata Showroom at 12.30 pm and Devaraja Market at 3.30 pm. On July 29, the troupe will perform at City Bus Stand at 10 am, Palace premises at 12.30 pm and K.R.Circle, at 3.30 pm. Another bus will be visiting taluks in the district. The artistes will perform today at T.Narasipura and Nanjangud. Tomorrow the troupe will perform at K.R.Nagar Bus Stand 12.30 pm and Periyapatna Bus stand at 4 pm.

On July 29, the artistes will perform at Hunsur at 10 am and H.D.Kote at 4 pm.
